“Union Square” by Stephane Pompougnac

Stephane Pompougnac’s “Union Square” feels like one of those moments you’re physically present and visibly awake, but your mind escapes from the confines of your current setting. Your eyes display a vacant gaze as you stare in the direction of whatever’s in front of you……but you can’t see a thing.

Instead, you’re transported to your own little world where your wishes are the only truth, and the temperature’s just right. Let’s daydream…

“Everything in its right place” by Radiohead

When Radiohead dropped their traditionally guitar driven brand of Rock in favour of a more electronic based sound for their fourth studio album “KID A”, there was a lot skepticism among fans and critics alike. However, the doubts only lasted until the actual record came out. Although “KID A” was a clear departure from “OK Computer” (the band’s most successful album), it drew high praises and a new legion of followers to a band that dared to be “progressive”.

“Everything in its right place” totally embodies the overall sound of the “KID A” album. Simple electronic keyboards driving a continuous note with little pause; stuttering vocals; and a bit of fuzz and hums adding a spacey dimension to an already interesting melody.

Innovation rules.

“Angels” by Wax Poetic

All you need is twenty five seconds of this song to brighten up your day. The intro is literally out this world. It begins by grabbing your attention with an extremely uncommon vocal sample, which is then enveloped by layers upon layers of (I’m tempted to say chocolate…lol) sonic treats. The Creole whispers perfectly match the bass line, as Norah Jones delivers a stellar chorus over some very smooth saxophone riffs.

Ilhan Ersahin’s Wax Poetic is New York-based via Stockholm and Istanbul. The band came together in 1997 as a result of the jam sessions that were taking place with various musicians at his “Nublu” club in New York.

Incredible stuff…

“The Time We Lost Our Way” by Loulou

“My mind is full bursting over, With all these things I can’t remember, Every little single memory reminds me of you/

My eyes were weary with all these tears, You left your shadow in my dreams, And all my doubts seem to disappear when you came along/

Flowers melting up into the sky, Hear my heart where our love collides, We hear the songs we found in the times we lost our way/

Gentle memories replace our tears, All the love we had is still right here, We hear the songs we found in the time we lost our way/

From without words cannot describe, What caused the stars to fall deep inside, Every little single memory reminds me of you/

Our days are gone lost forever, Reflecting light glistening under water, Naturally this could be everything that seems so unreal/

Flowers melting up into the sky, Hear my heart where our love collides, We hear the songs we found in the time we lost our way”

“Walking on Space” by Smooth

Sometimes we face challenges so difficult to overcome and so taxing on our person that that after a while, we become more interested in simply ending the ordeal, rather than prolonging it in the search for some sort of positive conclusion. We just want it (whatever “it” is) to be over.

“Walking on Water” is exactly what down-tempo is about, lush melodies, break-beats and spatial vocals.

This song feels like a release. A wave of pleasure attained after you’ve been relieved of a nagging, intense sort of pressure. The high felt after a victory, love…….peace. A sense of weightlessness as if unchained from the confines of gravity. Freedom!

Walk with me.
